By Timothy Whitt     Aug 7, 2013 in Travel
Niagara Falls, NY is a place of history but it is also a place of wonder. Each day thousands of people travel to see the wonder of hundreds of thousands of gallons of water traveling over a cliff in the gorge below.
Niagara Falls is quite young according to geologists, only about 12,000 years old. the falls were created by the retreating glaciers from the last ice age. The original site of Niagara Falls was at a what is not modern day Lewiston, NY. Over the years the falls eroded away the rock as it moved upstream to where the falls currently exists.
Native Americans were the first people to discover the power of Niagara Falls. Since the inception of the railroad in the 1800's Niagara Falls has become a favorite destination of throngs of people for vacations, honeymoons and even the occasional daredevil.
Over the years 16 people have attempted to dare a trip over Niagara Fall- 9 have lived 7 have died. No one has ever survived a trip over the American Falls because of the boulders at the bottom of the falls.
For vacationers Niagara Falls offers some wondrous sights. There is the view of the American Falls and Horseshoe Falls as seen from the deck of the Maid of the Mist.
Another great way to see the Falls is to the Cave of the Winds tour.
