Beijing - A man in China was caught trying to smuggle his pet turtle onto an airplane by concealing the creature inside a sandwich from KFC. The incident occurred Monday morning inside Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.
UPI reports that the man was passing through a security checkpoint when security personnel noticed an odd protrusion from his KFC bag as he was scanned by the x-ray machine.
The Huffington Post reports that when security officers suspected that a turtle was inside the bag and asked for a closer inspection, the man told them:
“There’s no turtle in there, just a hamburger. There’s nothing special to see inside.”
Once the security officers confirmed that it was a turtle, the man told them that he only was trying to travel with his beloved pet.
Security officers explained that smuggling a turtle onto an airplane was not allowed, so the man was forced to leave his turtle with a friend until he returned from his trip.
The man was passing through the security checkpoint on his way to catch a China Southern Airlines flight to Beijing, according to NewsOK.
