article imageCatching up with Abisha Uhl from Sick of Sarah Special

By Markos Papadatos     Jul 31, 2013 in Entertainment
On July 30, I had the chance to speak via telephone with Abisha Uhl, the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist from the all-female rock group, Sick of Sarah.
They are signed to the label Adamant Records and their hometown is Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sick of Sarah has been praised by such female artists as Susanna Hoffs, the lead singer of The Bangles, as well as Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Nancy Wilson from the band Heart.
According to Abisha, she remarked, “We are working really hard on this new record. The vibe is a little bit different and we are experimenting with new sounds. We definitely grew a lot from the previous album.”
The rock songstress added, “This CD is the ‘rebirth’ of Sick of Sarah. There is a lot of life that happened in between our last record. I feel confident that with this timing and this experience, we will bring something to the table that is really thought-out as opposed to a rushed project.”
From their forthcoming CD, Abisha noted that she is excited about their song “Rooftops,” which is typical Sick of Sarah tune, as well as “Battleships,” which is a slower song on acoustic guitar backed with our harmonies. “‘Battleships’ is very touching, dramatic and I love it. Jamie Holm from the band wrote it and I helped her out a bit. The first time I sat down and listened to it, I just got teary eyed and started crying. I am excited for this one since it’s going to be the new ‘Paint Like That,’” she said.
Although Sick of Sarah did not get a chance to be on this year’s “Vans Warped Tour,” Abisha shared that she was fortunate enough to have been a part of two “Vans Warped Tours” in the past. “Hopefully with the release of the third studio album, we can go back out,” she said. “I would love to do the Vans Warped Tour in Australia. That would be really cool.”
Besides recording, Sick of Sarah will be playing shows in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for the next couple of months, and they will be working on their album’s pre-production. “The girls and I are really excited about it, and we are a bit impatient too, but we are taking our time since we really want to get it right and please our fans, as well as ourselves,” she said. “The girls and I are more than ready to get out on the road and we look forward to seeing our fans again. We really improved a great deal and it will be fun to show off our new songs.
