Country singer and songwriter Justin Adams has a big reason to celebrate: his self-titled new EP reached No. 4 on the iTunes Country Album charts.
On July 29, I had the chance to talk to Justin about his musical accomplishments and future plans.
According to Justin, he shared, “It is honestly the absolute greatest feeling in the entire world. I never thought as an unsigned artist that my new record would make the Top 20 on the iTunes country chart, let alone go to No. 4 and land in the Top 50 in all genres. This is just a testament to how incredible and amazing my fans are. I am so thankful for them and anyone who shared the record, tweeted about it, told someone about it and spread the word. I truly have the greatest fans and I love each and every one of them to pieces. I can’t put into words how much they mean to me. I’m so excited to keep writing songs and sharing my music for them.”
An Oklahoman football player-turned-country singer, Justin noted that the song selection process for this project was extremely tough since he only had to choose five songs for it. “I had written so many songs since moving to Nashville and I just wanted to find my five greatest ones that I best exemplified me as a person and what I believe in. I am so proud of every song on this record and the co-writers that created them with me. My producers, Aaron Eshuis and Matthew McGinn, played a part in that process too. Each song is unique and tells a different story but they are real life experiences that I’ve had so what you’re hearing in these stories are all chapters and moments in my life. The beauty of writing has always been a story told and a memory lived or something that you hope will happen in the future. I just want my stories to be able to tell you who I am and I hope that they connect with the listener and move them. Music is such an amazing thing.”
On his future plans, Justin underscored, “I am going to keep writing songs, better songs and keep touring the country sharing my music and meeting more great people while doing it. That’s my absolute favorite part of touring is getting out, meeting the people and the fans, seeing new places and making new friends. I am so thankful for those opportunities. I am going to start touring to new markets and playing new cities and just keep going. I have so many things that I want to accomplish in my career and it’s just pressing towards those goals and to keep learning more and more as I go. I am so thrilled and excited for what’s to come.”
When asked about his personal favorite tune on the record, he stated, “It’s hard to choose because my songs mean so much to me but my absolute favorite song I’ve ever written is ‘This Cowboy’s Gonna Ride.’ This song just represents everything I believe in about life, death and my faith as a Christian. It’s such a personal song for me and I hold it very close to my heart. The song just gives clarity and closure to losing someone.”
Justin recalled, “I remember driving home from after the writing session and listening back to the tape and just crying because it hits home so much with me and it says something I’ve wanted to say so long in a song that I haven’t been able to until this one. I’ll still tear up if I close my eyes and listen and picture everything in my head as I hear it. I am so incredibly proud of this song and my co-writer Kent Blazy. The amazing Kent Blazy has written six No. 1 songs (‘If Tomorrow Never Comes’ and ‘Ain’t Goin’ Down Til’ The Sun Comes Up’) for a fellow Oklahoman, Mr. Garth Brooks and a huge amount of other great songs and chart-topping singles for other artists. It has been an absolute honor to write with Kent but even more so to be able to call him a friend. He’s been such a mentor for me here and I am so blessed that I can learn from him and have the opportunity to create with him. This song wouldn’t have been possible without him.”
