An Google online survey of 1,000 Canadians just released finds more are using smartphones and using them a lot. Fifty-six percent now use them, up from 33 percent just a year ago, and 80 percent of the users won't leave home without their smartphone.
"Mobile has become a core part of how people live their lives today," said Eric Morris, Google Canada's head of mobile advertising "The study shows people are using mobile to change all aspects of their life, whether it's their job, travel, shopping, the way they communicate with others, and specifically trying to understand the world around them."
Of those using smartphones in Canada, the survey found 78 percent were using them to connect to social media and 52 percent were doing so every day. Seventy-five percent had used their smart phone to log onto video and 20 percent of them do that daily.
TV still reigns over smart phones, though, right? That may still the case but 35 percent of smartphone users said they'd give up their TV before their smartphone. As for Apps, the average smart phone user had installed 30 Apps, on average paying for eight of them.
Similar surveys have found that smartphone usage continues to increase worldwide. Smartphones now outsell other mobile phones.
