New York - On July 25, I had the pleasure to sit down and chat with country singer and songwriter Will Hoge on his tour bus prior to his headlining concert at The Bowery Ballroom in New York City, where he performed with Wade Bowen.
“It’s always great to be here in New York. Wade Bowen is a friend so it’s great to do the duet together with him so it’s good to have him on the show. That’s always fun,” Will said.
He noted that he is extremely proud of his new single “Strong,” especially since the fan response to it has been “better than he could have ever hoped for.”
Will’s song “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” which he co-wrote with Eric Paslay, garnered songwriting nominations this year from the Academy of Country Music (ACM), Country Music Association (CMA) and the Grammy awards. “That was a real honor,” Will exclaimed. “It was incredible to be nominated for those, especially out of all the songs that were written in Nashville this year. I was a fan of the other songs that were nominated too in those categories and I wished I had written those as well.”
He shared that his upcoming ninth studio album “Never Give In,” is expected to be out on October 15. “It’s a fun record and we are really excited for it. I cannot wait for everybody to hear it,” Will said. “It’s a mixture of great songs and stories which include up-tempo tunes, soulful songs and ballads. I write songs all the time and I am always working on a new record.”
Will had the opportunity to be a part of gospel sensation Amy Grant’s latest studio album “How Mercy Looks From Here” and he sings harmony on the moving ballad “Shovel in Hand.” “Amy and Vince have so good to me over the years and I had always told them if they ever needed anything to call me. When she called, I was a little worried initially since her contemporary Christian songs are not up my alley and I didn’t want to ruin her record. She sent me this song that was just her singing with an acoustic guitar and I was blown away. It’s one of my favorite songs that I have ever heard of anybody, so to get to go and sing on it and to hear the production was incredible. I was really honored to get to sing on it with her,” he remarked.
The Tennessee native listed the “Coal Miner’s Daughter” Loretta Lynn as his dream female duet choice in music.
