article imageThe Voice: Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green back after year off

By Marcus Hondro     Jul 28, 2013 in Entertainment
Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green, each of whom took season four off The Voice, are returning for season five, the show announced today. The ratings continued improving with Usher and Shakira working as coaches alongside Blake Shelton and Adam Levine.
The producers also announced that in 2014 as season six comes around they'll switch back to Usher and Shakira, with Aguilera and Green taking another year away in 2014 (both Shelton and Levine will continue on the panel in seasons five and six). It is a format that gives the four doing the switching greater opportunity for other endeavors and allows for more family time.
“I’m the type of person who cannot live in front of a camera 24 hours,” Aguilera told media. “I have to take breaks, stay connected with myself. I’m a mom. When I leave here I put on sweats and a T-shirt, I check out. I needed some time to do that. I am revived and renewed. I did a lot of traveling.”
Aguilera said that when Shelton heard she was returning to The Voice he contacted her to tease her about coming back to ”his” show. His remark comes from the fact that for 3 of the show's 4 seasons, the last 3, Shelton coached the winner, Jermaine Paul, Cassadee Pope and Danielle Bradbery. Levine coached season one winner, Javier Colon.
The show surpassed 'American Idol' in the ratings last season. Season five debuts at the end of September.
