article imageThe royal baby hype in the streets Special

By Eduardo Arrufat     Jul 25, 2013 in World
London - It's Royalists versus Republicans in the streets of UK for the media-euphoria about the Queen of England newborn great-grandson.
The last couple of weeks have been very busy for all the media interested in covering the arrival of a new member of the UK Royal Family and the third in line to the throne of England. But, are the people as much interested as the TV channels and newspapers have tried to make us believe so? If The Guardian website serves as an example, the annoyance that the Royal nativity news created to its readers made them produce a totally free-of-drooling website that you could access via clicking in the top right link tagged Republican.
Now that the boy has been born, the opinion from the people in the streets of Great Britain has been heard. Here are two interviews from random people from around the island of the United Kingdom right after the boy was delivered.
Matt B. 23 years old, Born in Wales, resident of Derbyshire
- How excited are you about the new baby?
Not so excited, glad they have a baby – it was in the pipeline for 9 months, so its not a total surprise !
- Have you been following the baby news daily?
No I haven’t been following it daily, the news are obsessed with it – maybe they have nothing else to cover
- Do you think the hype surrounding the new born is justified?
Not really, I mean its going to be some time before he is King – and a new born happens everyday. The really hype is for the family involved, it’s a new edition to their family – not a new edition to the whole of the UK
- Do you have any final comments that would summarize the Royal Baby days for you?
Happy for the couple they have a baby boy, am probably going to be sick when they keep covering this story for the next week or so. Next news flash will be when he’s walking and telling his dad how to fly a RAF helicopter better !!
Darragh M. 25 years old Resident of Lichfield
- How excited are you about the new baby?
If by excited you mean in the way a fattened pig becomes excited when he sees the farmer coming over thinking it’s some food but really it’s the final knife – then yes! Have you seen the weather the day after his birth? Torrential rain out of the heavens, back in the olden days it would have been seen as a message from God. Hope they name him Damien.
- Have you been following the baby news daily?
Dear God no. I have very little interest in babies being born, one is born every second of every day why would this one be any more special? The only thing special about it may come from the incestual nature of the royals.
- Do you think the hype surrounding the new born is justified?
Well being honest for a moment, the Queen and King of England are nothing more than a head of the kingdom that has had no real power ever since the parliamentarian victory during the civil war of the 1640s. Did you know that before then civil war the monarch could dissolve parliament at whim? Now the parliament can dissolve the monarchy – why they don’t is simple – tourism. Also in the age of celebrity a new born baby to a famous face is a huge headline grabber.
- Do you have any final comments that would summarize the Royal Baby days for you?
Happy for the couple of course, a baby born is a fantastic thing. I would have been sick of the incessant coverage if I had of tuned in, but I had to feed my guinea pigs and play Age of Empires 2 so much more important things to do.
