It may come as a surprise to many that the three time champions, the Alabama Crimson Tide, do not, according to a new study, have the most engaged fan base.
TicketCity has recently compiled their first annual Overall Ranking of the most engaged fan bases in College Football, and have designed an algorithm to rank the top 25 most supported college football teams. While The Crimson Tide may have gotten the championship, two other teams beat them overall in standings according to this survey.
This algorithm had several factors that went into ranking the top teams according to their fan base, based on the 2012 season, including:
Average total attendance, all games (5)
Average home attendance (10)
Average ticket price, all games (5)
Average home game ticket price (10)
Percentage of stadium capacity filled at home games (10)
Facebook likes & Facebook "talking about" (6)
Twitter following (3)
The University of Michigan is the team that scored the highest, with a perfect score of 100 after taking all these aspects into account.
Results that led to the University of Michigan's perfect score include:
Average total attendance: 112,252
Average home attendance: 91,555 (They were 3rd in this category)
Average ticket price: $121 (They were 5th in this category)
Facebook likes: 1,047,279
Most Facebook "Talking About": 28,590 (They were second in both Facebook-related categories)
Most Twitter Followers: 149,498
All great stats led to the University of Michigan fan base's 100 percent score. Will these stats lead other teams to step up and support their team? The least you can do is follow and like on Facebook and Twitter!
