article imageCatching up with country singer Lisa Matassa: 'I Won't Ask' Special

Plainview - On July 22, Long Island country singer and songwriter Lisa Matassa sat down with me and opened up about her new, up-tempo radio single “I Won’t Ask.”
According to Lisa, she remarked, “I am really excited about this single. My inspiration for a song can come from just about anywhere. It can come from a thought or it can come from something that has happened, but it has to be something that has touched me in some way.”
Lisa continued, “I remember one night I was down in Nashville and I had gone to a really great honky tonk there and I saw this couple arguing. I went back to my hotel and into my bed and then about 1:30 a.m. I was woken up from all of these lyrics in my head, about how ‘I won’t ask’ about certain things. I didn’t have a melody line, but I had all the words: the verses, chorus and the bridge. When I embarked on my next radio tour, my guitarist was with me and he helped me come up with the melody. We went over my producer’s house over a weekend and we ended up writing and recording ‘I Won’t Ask’ in one night. It was great and it was so much fun. So far we have received some great preliminary responses from the people that have heard it.”
The Long Island songstress noted that she is excited to see other artists that are crossing over into the modern country genre. “It is nice to see Sheryl Crow being accepted into the country scene, as well as Kelly Clarkson and Darius Rucker. It just goes to show how influential country music is since it is about real life and it is exciting to be a part of it. I think it’s really excited to be the first artist from Long Island, New York, to get into that,” Lisa stated.
