During a Q&A panel at this year's San Diego Comic Con, Karen Gillan unveiled her new hairstyle: a severe shaven-headed look!
Gillan, who is widely known for her two-year tenure playing Amy Pond in the science-fiction drama series Doctor Who, normally has very long red hair; but not any more. She's had it all shaven off for her role in the film Guardians of the Galaxy, which is being produced by Marvel Studios.
The 25-year-old is following in the footsteps of her former Doctor Who co-star Matt Smith, who had his head shaved a few weeks ago for his role in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut fearture, How to Catch a Monster.
Gillan shocked fans during the Marvel Studios Press Line at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con, when she whipped off what turned out not to be her real hair but a false red wig.
To the crowd, with a smile, she said, "It's liberating. I think everyone here should shave their heads.
The Hollywood Reporterbroke the news of Gillan's casting in Guardians of the Galaxy at the beginning of June. However, Digital Spy reported, "Details of the film, including its villains, remain closely under wraps."
Glenn Close, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace and Michael Rooker have all been cast, too.
