article imageElite goose cops in China helping fight crime

By Kirstin Stokes Smith     Jul 19, 2013 in Odd News
Xinjiang - Police patrol geese are becoming a powerful crime fighting resource for police in China’s northwestern Xinjiang province.
Law enforcement agencies have been deploying police geese, who work in gaggles of about 20, successfully for several months now, reports Examiner.com.
Xinjiang’s Goose Patrol is proving its worth too. In June, one gaggle of police geese helped catch a man who attempted to steal a police motorbike, reports NY Daily News.
Xinjiang is one of China’s most volatile regions. Thirty-five people died last month during confrontations between Han Chinese and Uighur people. Tensions between these groups have continued to flare since 2009, when almost 200 lives were lost during rioting in Urumqi, Xinjiang’s capital, reports NY Daily News.
