The Yancey Boys "Sunset Blvd" features all unreleased J. Dilla beats. The new collection from Illa J, J. Dilla's younger brother, and Frank Nitt, is due out September 17.
The Yancey Boys were formed by Illa J and J Dilla who died of a complications from lupus in 2006. Illa J has continued releasing music since his brother's untimely death.
Sunset Blvd features the song "Quicksand" by Common and Dezi Page. "Quiksand" and another cut from Sunset Blvd called "Fisherman" will be released July 30, HipHopDX reports.
Posdnuous of hiphop trio De La Soul appears on the track "Beautiful" while Pharcyde member SlimKid3 teams with the Yancey Boys on "Rock My World." T3 of Slum Village performs the song "Jeep Volume." Throughout his illustrious career, J. DIlla worked with Common, De La Soul, and Pharcyde, and was a member of Slum Village.
"We've created an album that would make Dilla proud," says Frank Nitt, a longtime friend of Dilla's. The two group up together in Detroit. "But this isn't a nostalgia trip. Dilla's beats were so future forward that they're right on time on time in 2013, and we've assembled the best possible artists to represent that."
The album also features songs by Detroit rapper Guilty Simpson and "Lovin U" featuring singer Eric Roberson.
The music will be released by the Yancey Media Group in conjunction with Delicious Vinyl.
Illa J began making music under the Yancey Boys banner with the guidance of Frank Nitt in 2008, HipHopDX reports. The first Yancey Boys album "was a chance to put Illa J on the map and keep it in the family," says Delicious Vinyl co-founder and CEO Mike Ross.
