Op-Ed: Adam Kokesh is not a coward

By Alex Allen     Jul 13, 2013 in Politics
The mainstream media in the United States has done a horrible job of reporting the facts of Adam Kokesh's civil disobedience act and arrest.
In a clear attempt to collectivize the Libertarian movement and demonize Kokesh and other gun owners, many of the major news outlets in the United States have been twisting the facts of what really happened with Adam Kokesh during his now infamous act of civil disobedience on July 4th, 2013.
For those who aren't already aware, Adam Kokesh is an Iraq war veteran and activist who, on July 4th, 2013, made a very controversial video of himself standing in Freedom Plaza in Washington, D.C., loading a 12 gauge shotgun. His home was then raided by a SWAT Team and other police on the night of Tuesday, July 9th, shortly after he finished taping an interview for the Infowars Nightly News. But of course, the events leading up to Kokesh's arrest have been blown completely out of proportion by the corporate-controlled mainstream media.
The major lie the media has been spewing is the idea that Kokesh cancelled his original plans for an armed march on Washington, D.C. on Independence Day because he was afraid of the consequences. Most news outlets have even been suggesting that his idea to cancel came as a direct result of D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier stating that Kokesh and other protesters would be arrested at the protest. This is an absolute lie.
Kokesh was wrongfully arrested at an anti-prohibition rally in Philadelphia on May 18. During his imprisonment he decided to call off the D.C. armed march and encourage protesters to march on all 50 state capitals instead. He made this decision because he felt that the D.C. march relied too much on his personal direction and planning and wanted demonstrations to take place regardless of whether or not he was imprisoned or otherwise unavailable on July 4th. He later rescheduled the D.C. protest for July 4th, 2014. And of course, suggesting that Kokesh is somehow cowardly is absolutely absurd considering the number of times he has made bold statements by being arrested for various acts of civil disobedience.
Of course, this is certainly not the first time the mainstream media has spun something a prominent Libertarian-leaning figure has said. Earlier this year, Rachel Maddow of MSNBC took a clip of radio host Alex Jones talking about weather weapons and HAARP technology and blew it out of proportion to suggest that Jones was saying the government had created the tornadoes in Oklahoma.
