article imageRegular sex makes you seven years younger, expert claims

Having sex on a regular basis can take five to seven years off your face, an expert claimed, as sexual pleasure is a crucial factor in preserving youth. It releases the human growth hormone, keeping the skin elastic and thus less likely to wrinkle.
Sexual intercourse boosts blood circulation, which is good for the heart and gives skin that healthy glow and it also burns fat and releases other chemicals that bolster the immune system.
Dr. David Weeks, former head of old age psychology at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, said “My message is that lovemaking is good.” He said he spent a decade prying into the private lives of thousands of men and women of all ages, and found that lovemaking releases the human growth hormone, which helps keep the skin elastic and thus less likely to wrinkle.
Sex also released endorphins, he said, which are the body’s feel-good chemicals and natural painkillers that ease anxiety and make it easier to sleep – and finally sex burns fat and releases other chemicals that bolster the immune system. It is known that endorphin (endogenous morphine) is produced as a response to certain stimuli, especially stress, fear or pain. They originate in various parts of body – the pituitary gland, your spinal cord and throughout other parts of brain and nervous system – and interact mainly with receptors in cells found in regions of the brain responsible for blocking pain and controlling emotion.
Dr. Weeks also cited a Welsh heart disease study from 1997 that found mortality risk was 50 percent lower in a group of men who had orgasms twice a week or more compared to those who had fewer orgasms. Prior research has also found an association between regular lovemaking and a reduced risk of early death. "Sexual satisfaction is a major contributor to quality of life, ranking at least as high as spiritual or religious commitment and other morale factors, so more positive attitudes towards mature sex should be vigorously promoted," he added.
The stereotype of an elderly person, saying that they stop having sex when they get their pension and bus pass, is not true according to Dr. Weeks.
