“I am very excited to be playing in New York again,” she said. “This time we’ll be playing a bunch of new songs and the line-up has changed. We have live strings and a more folky vibe.”
Her hit song “The Show” was featured in the Oscar-nominated film “Moneyball,” starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill. “That felt wonderful, particularly as the song plays such a heartfelt role in the story. I chatted on Skype with the young actress who sung it and that was pretty cute too. We are mutual fans of each other,” she revealed.
Lenka disclosed that her forthcoming studio album “Shadows” is very much a lullaby CD. “It is based around the experience of becoming a parent, which made me feel quite reflective and dreamy,” she said. “I have been writing about themes such as memories, hope, loss, dreams and childhood.”
The Aussie songstress continued, “I have always loved those albums that you can put on and fall asleep to. I wanted to make one myself, so this is an album for dreaming. I want the songs to drift into the listeners’ dreams.”
For this album, Lenka was inspired by music from the 1970’s folk era. These influences include such musicians as the late Nick Drake, Fleetwood Mac, Donovan, Serge Gainsbourg, as well as such dream-pop acts as Sigur Ros and M83.
Throughout her career, Lenka has had a No. 1 record in six countries and she is also pleased with the fact that her songs have been featured in motion pictures and in television. “That is my biggest accomplishment,” she acknowledged. “I love having my music used in other creative endeavors and I know that a lot of people have been introduced to me that way.”
Her new song “Nothing Here But Love” is going to be in JJ Abram’s new show “Believe,” as well as a new song that she wrote specifically for the show. “‘Nothing Here But Love’ describes a Utopian fantasy land that I sometimes feel exists, on special, sweet afternoons when you are surrounded by your loved ones,” she shared.
