Dubrovnik - The globally popular serial Game of Thrones will once again, for the third year, be filmed in Dubrovnik. The HBO series, based on the novels “A Song of Fire and Ice” written by George R.R Martin, is filmed in various locations all over Europe.
Dubrovnik, Croatia, has been used as the location for King's Landing in the serial in seasons two and three, and once again HBO have chosen will shoot in the city in season four. King's Landing is the capital of the Seven Kingdoms in the series and is therefore one of the most important locations for the Game of Thrones series.
According to information from the Croatian production company Embassy Films filming will start in Dubrovnik on the 20th of August and go on until the 20th of September, reports The Dubrovnik Times. And this year there is a new Croatian location added, Split, where filming will start on the 21st of September and go on to the 10th of October, reports the blog An Englishman in Dubrovnik.
Game of Thrones has over the last two years used many different locations in and around Dubrovnik, including the island of Lokrum, the Lovrijenac fortress and the 15th century arboretum in nearby Tresteno. However, by using Split, this is the first year that they have filmed outside of Dubrovnik. It is believed that the Diocletian Palace in the city centre will be one location as well as nearby islands. The Croatian newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija reports that the basement under the Diocletian Palace will be used for a few days of shooting and then in the village of Klis where a mountain fortress is located.
