Smith and Howard have a friendship that dates back to the days of their childhood and anything the Rockets front office can do to persuade one or both of these players to sign is a priority.
After a roller coaster career with the
Atlanta Hawks, the 27 year-old Smith is looking for a fresh start and playing with a team that has a shot at winning a title has become important.
The former first round draft pick averaged 17.5 points and just over eight rebounds this past year with the Hawks and 15 points and eight boards for his career, but on and off court issues have made news around the league and it surprised most
basketball experts that Atlanta didn't try to trade the young forward last season, especially when he made it clear a return to the Hawks was highly unlikely.
Smith is a dynamic player with great leaping ability and the skills to create his own shots. A move to Houston with James Harden and possibly Howard would make this franchise one of the best in the NBA and a team that could compete for a title in the 2013-14 season.
