article imageNBA News: NY Knicks acquire Andrea Bargnani from Raptors

By Larry Seely     Jun 30, 2013 in Sports
New York - The NY Knicks had a terrific 2012-13 NBA season, but the franchise is looking for bigger and better years in the future and they took a big step forward with the acquisition of Adrea Bargnani from Toronto.
The 27 year-old was a first round pick by the Raptors back in 2007 and while he has played some good basketball, Toronto has felt he never reached his full potential and have been looking to deal the forward/center for the past year to help shave some money from their salary cap situation.
Toronto is reportedly getting veteran center Marcus Camby, forward Mike Novak, and two draft picks, including a first round choice in 2016.
Bargnani suffered a setback this past season as he averaged 12.7 points and 3.7 rebounds, this after averaging over 20 points and five rebounds over the previous two years with the Raptors. The move gives the NY Knicks more depth and talent in their front court and a player that can help Carmelo Anthony handle the offensive load for the next couple of seasons.
Toronto finally gets rid of a huge contract and though Camby and Novak bring experience, this deal hinged on the two draft picks that the Raptors can use to add more young talent to help with rebuilding and becoming a force in the Eastern Conference.
This deal is still awaiting approval from the NBA offices, but for New York, this is a big step forward and will help as they look to overtake Miami as the top team in the East.
