article imageFinal Day of the Sydney Monorail Special

By Richard Milnes     Jun 30, 2013 in Travel
Sydney - There were long queues as people tried to ride the Sydney Monorail for one last time on its final day of operation. The monorail infrastructure will be removed to make way for a new convention centre at Darling Harbour.
At Darling Park station there was a band and musicians playing to entertain passengers as well as some people dressed in odd costumes that were possibly supposed to resemble aliens, whilst a member of the gate staff wore a type of hat made from balloons.
This may have cheered up the passengers who were lined up in the rain in a slow moving queue, the likes of which had probably never been seen before by the Monorail staff.
Minister for Transport Ms Berejiklian had previously said. “The monorail has never been truly embraced by the community and is reaching the end of its economic life.”
The final ride is due to leave at 9:30pm for 48 special ballot winners.
