article imageReview: Hunter Hayes makes country history with 'Encore' edition of album Special

By Markos Papadatos     Jun 29, 2013 in Entertainment
Hunter Hayes re-released his eponymous debut album on June 18 and the “Encore” edition propelled to the top of the Billboard Hot Country album charts.
This milestone was achieved after his self-titled CD spent 89 weeks on the charts, thus shattering the previous record when the Dixie Chicks re-released their “Wide Open Spaces” album that took 51 weeks to reach the top.
According to an article on Country Music Television’s (CMT) official website, the Atlantic Nashville recording artist sold 39,905 units this past week and the album’s total sales exceeds 831,766 copies.
“Encore” Review
Hunter Hayes co-produced the album with veteran producer Dann Huff.
It opens with his up-tempo debut single “Storm Warning” and it is followed by his stunning chart-topping love ballad “Wanted,” as well as an equally beautiful tune “If You Told Me To.
“Love Makes Me” showcases the versatility and the range of his talent and “Somebody’s Heartbreak” is Hunter’s second chart-topping single on radio and rightfully so.
Being a huge fan of ballads, “Rainy Season” is a stand-out track and one of my personal favorites due to its emotional and heartfelt lyrics, as well as Hunter’s superb use of falsetto.
Equally infectious are “Cry With You” and “Faith To Fall Back On.”
He tackles the subject matter of solitude quite well in “Everybody’s Got Somebody But Me” and many single guys can relate to this tune. Particularly impressive about Hunter’s version of this song on the “Encore” edition is that is a duet with Jason Mraz, who lends him mellow vocals on the track, thus elevating it to a higher level.
Speaking of duets, in this project, country songstress Ashley Monroe lends her honey-rich voice on “What You Gonna Do.”
He showcases some attitude on the upbeat “More Than I Should” and it’s such a catchy vocal and addicting melody.
From the five new tracks that are featured on this album, four are stellar and worthy of becoming future radio singles for Hunter, which include the soothing “In a Song,” as well as “Better Than This,” the uplifting “Light Me Up” and his current single “I Want Crazy,” which is escalating up the Billboard Hot Country charts.
Conclusion
With a total of 17 well-crafted tracks, one cannot go wrong by purchasing and adding Hunter Hayes' “Encore” CD to their collection. It is highly eclectic and there is something in it for everybody. He is one of the most talented young musicians that modern country-pop music has to offer: a fine vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter that either wrote or co-wrote every song on the entire album. Congratulations to Hunter for re-recording and co-producing a flawless record!
