Millburn - State surveillance is a hot topic at the moment with the Edward Snowden case in full flow and Julian Assange still holed up in London, but not all surveillance is bad.
There are TV programmes worldwide that invite ordinary people to assist in the fight against crime. In the UK there is Crimewatch. In the US there is America's Most Wanted. There are also less formal ways to contribute on-line.
Today, this brave fellow was all over YouTube. In the photograph above it is not too clear what he is doing, but if you watch the video you will see it in graphic detail. Be warned though, it does not make pleasant viewing.
This was not state surveillance but a nanny-cam. The intruder forced his way into the victim's home and beat her in front of her young daughter.
In spite of the treatment he meted out, this woman was lucky, because as he dragged her out of the room she obviously thought he was going to rape her or worse, instead, he pushed her down the stairs to the cellar. The incident happened last Friday at Millburn, New Jersey.
Here is another video of a brutal attack, this time on the subway. Although we don't see the victim's face, it is obviously a woman, and just as obviously, she is not young.
There are a lot of uploads and there have been a lot of viewings of the former especially. If think you recognise either of these assailants, you know what to do.
Maybe total surveillance isn't such a bad thing after all?
