For Harbourfront Centre's 40 years a large parking lot dominated the street view. Today that parking lot is a beautiful green space that better represents the nature of Toronto's waterfront. With over 4,000 arts and cultural events happening at Harbourfront Centre a year this area needed a serious face-lift.
Parking has been moved to a three storey underground parking lot that features a reflective glass art piece by artist James Carpenter. During the day this art is practical, bringing sunlight into the parking garage.

All of Ontario Square's features have been sourced from within the province. Premier Wynne said that the province is committed to giving the residents of Toronto a vibrant waterfront.
Using Ontario's boreal forest as inspiration designers from Michael Van Valkenburgh and Associates have created a space where tourists and residents can relax on the waterfront. More than 500 quaking aspen trees and stone pavers that will look like ice floes during the winter months complete the green space and photography displays on the grounds. Three large-scale photo works were commissioned from Mark Kasumovic.
Funding for the construction of the square was provided by the Government of Ontario.
