article imageFBI goes Round Two with terrorist – linked group CAIR

By Christopher Wager     Jun 23, 2013 in Politics
CAIR criticizes FBI on terrorist sting operation policies for what appears to be retaliation for being named a co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial.
In the after math of the Boston bombing, terrorist-linked group, “Council on American-Islamic Relations”, or CAIR didn’t waste the opportunity to lash out at the FBI’s polices on handling and uncovering potential terrorist plots in the U.S. saying, “The FBI’s inability to identify the bombers before the attacks proves that counter-terror stings don't work.”
CAIR gained the full attention of the FBI dating back to 2008, when ties between CAIR, Hamas (an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood), and the Muslim Brotherhood were established during the Hamas (terrorist group) financing trial where front company Holy Land Foundation, along with their co-conspirators were found guilty on 108 counts of raising money to fund the terrorist group. During the trial, CAIR was named as an un-indicted co-conspirator. In addition, Richard C. Powers, an assistant director in the FBI’s Office of Congressional Affairs alleged they have proof they can:
“Demonstrated a relationship among CAIR, individual CAIR founders (including its current President Emeritus and its Executive Director) and the Palestine Committee.”
The Palestine Committee is a fund-raising and propaganda appendage of Hamas in the United States. As well as being labeled a terrorist organization since 1995, in a wiretapping operation conducted by the FBI, they were able to secure the transcript of a secret 1993 meeting in Philadelphia of Hamas supporters. The gatherers began by speaking of putting together a new organization with an innocent sounding name. Comments during the meeting from Holy Land Foundation, President Shukri Abu Baker read from the transcript as follows:
“The new entity should present a benign face compared to existing Islamist groups. And let’s not hoist a large Islamic flag, and let’s not be barbaric-talking. We will remain a front so that if the thing happens, we will benefit from the new happenings instead of having all of our organizations classified and exposed.”
After the trial, CAIR petitioned the court to have its name removed from the co-conspirators list but was denied. However, in the week of May 10 of this year CAIR submitted written testimony to a House Committee condemning the FBI on several anti-terrorism policies and including several recommendations of their own. I will note (as pointed out in the article written by IPT NEWS) none which do anything for promoting the circumventing of any future attacks. Some statements CAIR made about the FBI’s inefficiency include: “successful stings - contributed to a false sense of security within the FBI that led to its agents missing a more well-guarded threat like the Boston Bombers.” They continue that publicized stings which are deemed successful work to push the official message. They do little to actually stopping real catastrophes.
Included in their testimony was the illustration of Mohamed Mohamud who as you may remember attempted to set off a car bomb during a Christmas tree lighting ceremony crowded with children and their families in Portland, Oregon. CAIR alleged the Federal Bureau of Investigations expedited Mohamed’s progression of becoming radicalized. CAIR goes on to say the FBI enabled and pressured him in a critical time in which Mohamed could have been turned from his path of violence.
However, Eric Holder, head of the U.S Department of Justice back in 2010 pointed out in a statement he made regarding the case said. “This was an individual who was given a number of opportunities to desist from his course of action, but who at every turn decided that he wanted to continue."
In addition, prosecutors of the case presented recorded evidence of Mohamud’s planned explosion, identified his target, conducted surveillance, and practiced the route. And, made the attempt to detonate the bomb on November, 26, 2010 with a number in a cell phone. All facts absent from CAIR’s testimony. Also, excluded was Mohamud’s publications in an on-line magazine named Jihad Recollections or his attempt to make contact with anyone who could assist him attending Jihad boot camp in Pakistan.
CAIR’s entanglements with the FBI and known terrorists contacts, however, has not proven to be enough to keep one of its own from being appointed in 2009 by the President to a top position in the Department of Homeland Security as Assistant Secretary for the Office of Policy Development.
CAIR has gone as far as to urge Muslim mosques in 2007 to apply for Homeland Security grants ear-marked for areas and communities at a high risk for attacks at the tune of $24 million dollars. Approving the grants means another place under a real threat of an attack goes unfortified. It is also fair to note according to experts on terrorism, 80% of U.S. mosques are funded by and under the direct control of the Saudi government. CAIR, Hamas, The Palestine Committee, the Muslim Brotherhood, and others will continue to be of concern to the FBI as long as they continue to hold ties to terrorists and fringe ideology that poses a threat to the national security of the United States.
