article imageStanley Cup injury updates give little info on Bergeron, Toews

By Marcus Hondro     Jun 23, 2013 in Sports
Injury updates on two key centers in the Stanley Cup final today understandably haven't given fans a lot of information to go on. For the Boston Bruins the focus is on Patrice Bergeron, for the Chicago Blackhawks it's captain Jonathan Toews.
Neither was able to finsih out last night's 3-1 Blackhawks win in Chicago and both appear to be in doubt for Monday's game 6 in Boston.
Bergeron was hurt in the first period and played just two short shifts. He was clearly in pain and he left the bench in that second and was taken to hospital in an ambulance, getting in on his own steam. He was released this morning and flew back to Boston with his teammates.
In Boston this morning, Briun's coach Claude Julien said Bergeron "may play the next game" but said he could say nothing else. Bergeron has scored important goals for his team during this playoff run.
Meanwhile, Toews appear to have suffered a hit to the head, or more than one, during the game Satuday, the worst coming off of a check from Johnny Boychuk (the league said Sunday morning there would be no suspension for the hit). Toews did not play after the second period but sat on the bench, cheering on his teammates and looking as if he wanted to get back into the game.
Chicago may have been taking extra precautions but they, too, have not said if he will be availabe for Monday's potential Stanley Cup winning game.
The last time Chicago played a game 6 in a final was 4 years ago against the Philadelphia Flyers; the Hawks were then also up 3-2 and playing on the road. They won on Patrick Kane's overtime goal to take the Stanley Cup.
The last time Boston played in a final was two years ago against the Vancouver Canucks and, like now, the Bruins were down 3-2, going back home for game 6. Boston won in Beantown and then in Vancouver and took home the Cup.
