On June 21, country singer Tate Stevens chatted with Digital Journal about his latest self-titled studio album and his upcoming concert in New York.
Tate was the winner of the second season of the Fox singing competition, “The X Factor.” He came from humble roots, working as a blue-collar construction worker prior to being a part of “The X Factor.”
Presently, he is signed to Syco Music/RCA Nashville and he released his eponymous debut album, which features his debut single “Power of a Love Song.” The single, written by Jeremy Bussey, Bradley Gaskin and Marcus Franklin Johnson, was released to country radio on April 23. He worked on the album with Nashville producer Blake Chancey and it features eleven songs, three of which were co-written by Tate. “I was writing a ton of songs and we were looking for songs that reflected my personality since I wanted to show people who I am as an artist. We have songs on there about summer-time fun and we have more serious songs,” he said.
On winning the second season of “The X Factor,” he acknowledged, “The whole experience was great, but it was very stressful at times, both emotionally and mentally. It was really tough but we had the chance to do a lot of fun things. It has all been great.”
Tate noted that he has a wide range of musical influences ranging from country greats as the late George Jones, Merle Haggard, as well as Ronnie Milsap, Garth Brooks, George Strait and Joe Diffie. “I also love rock artists since I am a big fan of rock and roll,” the Missouri native added.
On July 5, Tate is expected to perform at the Pennysaver Amphitheater in Long Island, New York as part of this year’s “Freedom Fest,” which is presented by “My Country 96.1 FM.” “I am looking forward to that show since there are going to be a lot of great artists such as Hunter Hayes. I think it’s going to be a fun time. I am just excited to be a part of it.”
He hinted that for “Freedom Fest” he will play songs from his new album, as well as a memorable medley of cover songs.
His first music video for “Holler If You’re With Me” was a part of his grand prize from “The X Factor” that was sponsored by Pepsi. The video made its debut in a commercial during the 55th annual Grammy awards.
Tate noted that he is a fan of such female country songstresses as Trisha Yearwood, Carrie Underwood, Patty Loveless, Lee Ann Womack and Reba McEntire.
Tate noted that he always tries his best to meet and greet his fans before and after his shows and sign autographs for them. “Country music fans are the best. I am one of them myself and I still love going to concerts, buying T-shirts and CDs. The fans are very giving and loyal,” he said.
Aside from his musical endeavors, Tate revealed that he enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time.
