article imageInterview with Cassadee Pope: 'Wasting All These Tears' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Jun 20, 2013 in Entertainment
On June 20, Cassadee Pope chatted via telephone with Digital Journal about her new single “Wasting All These Tears” and her recent musical successes.
According to Cassadee, she stated, “It’s a song that I heard in January at a publishing meeting when I first came down to Nashville. It sounded amazing to me. The song is catching on so well and it is such a powerful song. I recorded the music video two days ago and it’s a really cool video. I am really happy about it.”
Cassadee was the winner of the third season of NBC’s hit show “The Voice” and she was coached by Blake Shelton. “Blake is such an amazing guy and really nurturing with regard to preparing me for each week. He was great in reassuring me that everything was going to be okay. Blake was really invested in me and he still latches on and cares about his artists from his previous seasons. That’s why he is a great coach,” she recalled.
Her single has already peaked at No. 1 on the iTunes country singles chart and it has sold over 125,000 downloads in its first week. “That was crazy. ‘The Voice’ played a major impact on that. The fans have been waiting for new music for a while. I wanted to wait for something really great and I finally got it. It was actually better to release something that was more impactful. The label did an amazing job in helping to promote it and also being on the Rascal Flatts tour has allowed more fans to hop onboard,” she said.
The songstress is working on her debut studio album, which is expected to be released later this year, with veteran producer Dann Huff. “Dann is a visionary and he took my ideas and helped them come to life. He executed them so well and puts his pop-rock spin on it and I can relate to that since I love those elements as well. Dann is extremely good at that,” the Florida native said.
CMT is filming a documentary series on Cassadee which will debut in the fall and it will give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of her album. “I finished shooting the series yesterday. They followed me around for the past two months when I was in the process of recording the new album and they came with me on the radio tour which was incredible. They saw me going on flights each morning, as well as the filming of my new music video and they have seen a lot of things that I am excited for other people to see,” she revealed.
Cassadee is lending her voice for “Outnumber Hunger,” a national campaign that helps secure meals in local communities. This initiative is a partnership between the Big Machine Label Group, General Mills and Feeding America. “I was able to jump on board because of my affiliation with the label. It’s an amazing organization and I was able to get two trucks to get to Oklahoma City and they were able to send food to them. That was really special. They have been a great partner in helping solve our problem with hunger and it is really easy to get involved with this cause. It’s great since my fans can get involved and it is easier for them to give back,” she said.
This summer, Cassadee is out on the road touring with country trio Rascal Flatts as part of their “Live and Loud” tour. “It’s exciting when I come out to sing each night with Rascal Flatts. That exposure is incredible. Rascal Flatts and The Band Perry have been really great people and overall, it’s been a really fun and energetic atmosphere,” she said.
Cassadee listed Tim McGraw as her dream male duet choice in country music, especially since he was a major inspiration to her growing up. “That would be a dream come true,” she admitted.
She has been profiled in such noteworthy outlets such as “The Today Show,” “Live with Kelly and Michael,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and she performed with rock band Train on New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly.
For her fans, the Republic Nashville recording artist concluded, “Thank you for supporting me for all of these years and thanks for sticking with me through all of my changes in my musical work. I love them very much and they mean a lot to me!”
