Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the upcoming AT&T National PGA Tour event with a reported elbow injury. The worlds number one golfer will rest and return in time to play the British Open next month.
Woods hurt his elbow in the second round of last weeks US Open at Merion, but he continued to play through the injury and it showed on the scorecard with his worst scoring performance at any Major Championship.
Tiger has already won four events on the PGA Tour this season, but struggled at Memorial, leading into the US Open. He has now gone over five years without a winning a Major and this latest injury could setback his chances at Muirfield.
Knee injuries have hurt his chances of catching Jack Nicklaus for the most Majors at 19, but minor aches and pains seem to be creeping up on the golfing prodigy of late and this elbow strain is just the latest setback. Tiger has made a swing change already to alleviate the wear on his knees, but has yet to win another Major Championship since adopting this new swing.
Woods last won a British Open back in 2006 at Royal Liverpool, but a tie for third place last season and a strong showing to begin the year, had many golf experts predicting a big comeback, but now the golfing world must wait yet again as Tiger looks to regain the form that won him 15 Major titles in his career.
