Albuquerque - A woman in New Mexico was the victim of a break-in recently. She had confronted an intruder who had entered her home. When she unmasked the man, she found the prowler was none other than her own grandson. Later, he confessed his intent to commit robbery.
An Albuquerque woman was quietly watching television when an intruder broke into her home. A masked man dressed in all black had entered her home with a purple bandana pulled over his face, in an attempt to shield his identity. The woman confronted the prowler and found her own grandson standing there.
Not exactly stunned, she said she suspected the man was her grandson, according to KRQE News.
The two struggled and the woman had pulled off the bandana. The man then allegedly grabbed her purse and ran out of the home. She called police.
Police tracked down the grandson at his parents' house about four hours after the incident occurred, reports CBS News. The grandson reportedly eventually confessed to the break-in, saying that two of his friends convinced him it was a way to fund a trip to a local casino.
Thomas A. Clark, 22, was arrested and charged with felony crimes. Charges included aggravated residential burglary, larceny, and tampering with evidence. Clark was brought to the Metropolitan Detention Center, and his bail was set at $15,000.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, Clark's mother describes him as an "unemployed high school dropout with a drug addiction."
It is reported the victim, Pamela Dearinger, lost about $507 in her purse's contents, with the purse's value being about $200.
Reportedly, Clark also allegedly stole a television from her home last year. The man and his grandmother reportedly do not have a close relationship, his mother said. She told the media she wants her son to get counseling and drug treatment.
Dearinger told local media she is doing okay after the altercation and is recovering from cuts and bruises she suffered during the incident.
