Lauri Curtis, AA's Vic president of flight services, disclosed the plans in a statement, according to
CNN.
According to
NPR, in the statement Curtis says that the company expects to add the extra seats to the 737 and MD-80 fleets. However, the company has not decided on how many seats they will add, and they have yet to determine the impact of revenue and cost.
According to
USA Today, adding more seats will mean that American Airlines will need to have an additional flight attendant, because federal safety rules says that there needs to be a flight attendant for every 50 passengers.
AA operates 195 737w and 190 MD-80s, and these numbers make up almost two-thirds of AA's fleet.
