On June 11, I had the pleasure to interview electronic dance music (EDM) producer Carlo Astuti. He opened up about his career and his bootleg remix of Daft Punk's “Get Lucky.”
Carlo noted that he is drawn to the electronic dance music since it is the only genre of music that makes him “want to dance.”
He has been inspired musically by Pink Floyd, as well as music from the 1970s and 1980s era. “A lot of great music came out during those days,” he acknowledged. “I grew up listening to all kinds of music. I am also a huge fan of Bob Marley.”
A few weeks ago, Carlo performed at Lure Hollywood, a Los Angeles-based nightclub, to a great turnout. “I was really impressed by the amazing support from the fans in Los Angeles. The place was packed and when I started deejaying, everyone was dancing like crazy and having such a blast. Lure is a perfect venue for a DJ to spin since it has a great sound system, a big room and a good size dance floor. I am totally happy with my performance and I cannot wait to go back,” he said.
Most recently, Carlo remixed Daft Punk’s chart-topping dance single “Get Lucky.” “I was in front of my computer a few weeks ago looking for new music to add to my set. The Daft Punk album was about to come out. The track that caught my attention was ' Get Lucky,' so I started searching online to see if there was a good remix, but there was really nothing that impressed me. So I went into the studio and made a remix myself. People are loving it and has been getting thousands of views on YouTube and Soundcloud,” he said.
He listed Tiesto and Thomas Gold as the electronic dance music producers and DJs that he would love to someday collaborate with in the studio. “There are lot of great producers out there. Tiesto and Thomas have been a real inspiration for me,” he said.
On his plans for the future, he shared, “When I don’t travel for my gigs, I spend most of my time in the studio recording music. My plan for the future is to continue to make good music and tour all over the world. I am also working on new ideas for my live performance and making it more of an experience instead of just some DJ playing music.”
Carlo added, “A lot of big things are coming up in the next few months. Stay tuned for new music and a lot more shows. Thank you!”
In his spare time, Carlo enjoys being outdoors. “I am always working around so many people so I really like to be away when I am not working. I love biking on the beach. I also love to dirt bike. I am in the gym on a regular basis. Gelato in Malibu is always nice,” he said.
He concluded by thanking his electronic dance music fans for their support. “I wouldn't be where I am today without the fans. I live for them and I'm grateful for them. Sometimes I wish I could meet all of them personally and actually spend some time with all of them,” he said.
