article imageShort documentary: Love, the best medicine

By Anne Sewell     Jun 8, 2013 in Health
Evgeny and Svetlana live in Ukraine. They have 11 children. Nine are adopted and seven of these adopted children are HIV-positive. Their moving story shows the power of both love and family against all the odds.
RT has published the short, 25-minute documentary about the family and their story.
Evgeny was diagnosed with HIV some years ago and had a hard time accepting the situation and at first got into drugs, and then into trouble.
He went to the local church and got involved in a group, where he met his wife Svetlana. The couple fell in love and they asked the church to marry them. At first the pastor was concerned about the fact that Evgeny was HIV-positive, but eventually they did get married and are leading a very happy, if difficult, family life.
While they have two of their own children, they have also adopted nine other children, of which seven are also HIV-positive.
An inspiring story of ordinary people, leading an extraordinary and very happy life.
