A friendly game between Hong Kong and Philippine football teams turned unfriendly when the Azkals, the national football team of the Philippines, beat the Hong Kong football team in a friendly game Tuesday at the Mong Kok Stadium in Hong Kong.
ABS-CBN News reported that Azkals players and fans have been abused by supporters of the Hong Kong football team.
ABS-CBN News wrote: "Supporters of Hong Kong's football team threw trash and verbally abused Filipinos during the Philippine Azkals' friendly match in the former Crown colony on Tuesday night, witnesses said,
"Aside from members of the Philippine Azkals, others who suffered abuse were Filipino women and children who went to Hong Kong just to watch the match," the report added.
The Hong Kong football team lost to the Philippine Azkals 1-0 in a friendly match intended as a build up game for the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup to be held in Singapore next year.
The win was significant for the Philippine football team as it marked the first time the team won over Hong Kong in at least six FIFA-sanctioned games.
The Azkals have made significant progress in the AFF Suzuki Cup competition with their entry into the 2010 and 2012 semi finals, finishing fourth place overall.Read more:
