Microsoft, in two brief commercials, is cross-promoting with "Ghost In The Shell: Arise" to generate buzz for its Windows 8 tablet called Microsoft Surface.
On June 22, in theaters across Japan, the first part in the four-part OVA series “Ghost In The Shell: Arise” called “Ghost Pain” will be screened. On July 26, Ghost Pain will be made available for home video via Blu-Ray and DVD. So far, companies are wasting no time to tap into the type of GITS: Arise to generate buzz for their products. Microsoft, to promote its Surface tablet (which utilizes the Windows 8 operating system), has decided to cross-promote with GITS: Arise. There is a 30-second commercial and a 15-second commercial which shows the characters from GITS: Arise utilizing the surface tablet.
Perhaps these commercials might entice someone to get a Microsoft Surface.
GITS: Arise serves as a prequel to the first “Ghost In The Shell” movie which came out in the 1990s. This prequel shows the three main characters (Kusanagi, Batou, and Togusa) before they became members of Public Security Section 9. In Ghost Pain, Kusanagi works as an elite hacker for the 501st Secret Unit part of the Japanese military.
Ghost Pain covers several cases. It deals with a bombing via a self-propelled mine and the murder of military official implicated in an arms-dealing bribe case. Batou believes Kusanagi is responsible for the bombing. At the same time, Togusa is dealing with two cases at the same time with the first case being a shooting-related homicide and the second case being the death of a prostitute. GITS: Arise shows what the members of Section 9 were doing before joining Section 9.
