Mattie's Diner took over the Cars and Coffee Charlotte along with the North Carolina Music Factory's help in May 2012 after the Northlake Mall in Charlotte found it too difficult to manage the numbers coming out when the mall was open. It was win win for all. Their is space for 662 cars, Mattie's makes a great breakfast and has coffee and baked goods served outside to go.
I had french toast in the diner on Saturday morning where the owner, Matt, was cooking and chatted with me as he cooked. He tells me he was approached last year when Cars and Coffee was looking for a new site and loved the idea and timing. He had been looking at hosting some sort of monthly event. My breakfast was super; you can check out more reviews at Yelp and find menu links at about Mattie's Diner. Like Mattie's on facebook for even more information.

Mattie's diner was opened by Matt in 2005 after he found the 1949 diner under water in New Jersey in the late 90's, spent several years cleaning it and finding a place to set up shop with it.

He renovated but kept everything in the diner as original as possible. He says the space is cramped to cook as new cooking surfaces and equipment is so much larger then in 1949, but he can keep up to the Cars and Coffee crowd and is happy to have them.
There are rules for the car owners, which are spelled out in this post on the Cars and Coffee Charlotte forum. Basically the property is to be respected, no burnouts, clean up your mess, no vendors' tables and the police will be patrolling so keep the speed down and driving safe.
