article imageRepublican buys suspended 8-year-old lifetime NRA membership

By Marcus Hondro     Jun 1, 2013 in Odd News
Eight-year-old Josh Welch was suspended from his Maryland school allegedly for eating his Pop-Tart into the shape of a gun. Republican Nicholaus Kipke of the lower house of the state's legislature decided to help Josh - by buying him a NRA membership.
"I was embarrassed that my county would do that to him," Kipke said about Josh's suspension from Park Elementary School in Anne Arundel County. Kipke bought the boy a Lifetime Junior Membership in the NRA for $550.00 and gave it to him Wed., May 29.
The school board won't comment on the details of the suspension but it's being appealed. Josh has a lawyer in all of this, Robin Ficker, and Mr. Ficker said that his client "is a good kid (he's just) a little rambunctious." When the appeal is heard, part of his defense of Josh will include maps of Florida and Idaho, which Mr. Ficker says are more in the shape of a gun than the pop-tart gun Josh created.
The boy's family are not gun owners.
