A woman caused panic in the tax office in the Greek town of Chania on the Island of Crete, when she brandished a meat cleaver, threatening employees.
Michael Daskalakis of the Association of Western Crete revenue officers told Newsit the incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on Monday morning. A woman walked into the 10th floor office of the Internal Revenue Service and pulled a meat cleaver out of her bag.
The woman then proceeded to try and attack the staff. Ekathimerini reported she "allegedly brought the meat cleaver down on one of the employees’ desks."
Chania police were immediately called to the scene and the woman was arrested. The motivation for the attack is not known but reports cited the woman had personal problems and a sick child.
To Vima reported it is expected the woman will be charged with possession and illegal use of a weapon.
Taxes have steadily increased in Greece as austerity measures are implemented.
