Boston - Resembling the story of Walter White on the hit TV show Breaking Bad, a cancer-stricken teacher in Boston has been arrested for allegedly trafficking in methamphetamine, after a package of the substance arrived at his school.
57-year-old Stephen Doran is a tutor at the Match Charter Middle School in Jamaica Plain, a suburb of Boston. He is reportedly battling stage III cancer and undergoing chemotherapy, much like the part played by Bryan Cranston in the hit TV series, Breaking Bad.
According to authorities, Doran left the school with the package of methamphetamine at around 12:30 pm on Tuesday. State police troopers then pulled him over, opened the package, and recovered two heat-sealed baggies containing 480 grams of crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Doran was arrested and is being held on $10,000 bail. Should he post bail, he must wear a GPS device and remain on home confinement except for medical appointments.
Because the illegal substance was sent to the school, he was additionally charged with violating the state's drug laws in a school zone.
Following the seizure of the package, authorities obtained a further warrant to search Doran's home in Dorchester. During this search, an additional 38 grams of the substance along with around $10,000 in cash, plus a digital scale and other drug-distribution related items were seized. The street value? More than $50,000.
A spokesman for the Match Charter School, Mike Larson, issued a statement on Wednesday following Doran's arrest.
He explained that Doran had been employed by the school for nine months and had been subject to a criminal offender registry check before he was hired.
"We have no knowledge, nor any reason to believe, that any staff, teachers, or students were involved in this matter or were in danger in any way. We are cooperating completely with the police investigation, and are conducting our own internally. We are sharing all appropriate information with our staff, students and families to assure them of the safety of our school," the statement read.
In light of what has occurred, Doran will no longer be serving as a tutor at Match. Reportedly Doran is also a former State Representative out of Lexington.
He is expected to return to court June 24.

Breaking Bad is an Emmy-award winning AMC show that featured Bryan Cranston as a school teacher who starts trafficking drugs after being diagnosed with lung cancer, and battling with the expenses.
It goes to show that what people watch on TV can have an effect on their lives. Doran even somewhat resembles Walter White from the show.
