article imageOhio kidnap hero Ramsey to receive free hamburgers for life

By Michael Krebs     May 23, 2013 in Crime
After coming to the rescue of kidnapping victims Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight, Charles Ramsey has been offered hamburgers for life by Cleveland-area restaurants.
When local news television crews descended on Charles Ramsey, after hearing of his heroism in freeing Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight from years of brutal captivity at the hands of Ariel Castro, Ramsey told interviewers that he had been eating McDonald's when he heard desperate noises coming from Castro's house.
In honor of his decisive action, local area restaurants have offered Ramsey a lifetime of free hamburgers, according to a report in The Plain Dealer.
So far, fourteen restaurants are reported to have joined in the offer - although, currently McDonald's is not among them.
"We want to honor our local hero with local food," Scott Kuhn, a partner at Driftwood Restaurant Group, which operates four of the participating restaurants, told The Plains Dealer. "He stopped his meal midway through to help those women. We're now making sure he has other opportunities to go out and fully enjoy his burger."
The three women disappeared between 2002 and 2004 when they were in their teens and early 20s. Ohio prosecutors allege that Castro kept them captive in his home and beat and sexually abused them.
