By Markos Papadatos     May 19, 2013 in Entertainment
On May 18, Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos chatted via phone with actor Gilles Marini, who is best known from such television shows as “Switched At Birth,” “Brothers and Sisters,” “Sex and the City” and “Dancing with the Stars.”
On being a part of the Dancing with the Stars’ “All Star Cast,” he remarked, “It was fun and interesting to see the people. In my heart, I love to be an actor. The All-Stars season wasn’t as difficult as the first time I went on the show. Peta Murgatroyd was a sweetheart so that was a plus. I worked as hard as possible. Also, dancing with Cheryl Burke in the previous time that I was on the show was also awesome and fun.”
He is also pleased with his recurring role of Angelo on “Switched At Birth.” “It has been great. We are the shooting the second part of the second season. It has been great to have a lot of support and to work with such great actors,” he acknowledged.
Throughout his acting career, he has worked with such esteemed and award-winning actresses as Betty White, Sally Field, Vanessa Redgrave and Rachel Griffiths. “Betty is one of the brightest women that I have ever met in my life in this business. She is extremely smart and she knows all of the answers. She has a show at 91 years old and there is a reason for it. She’s incredible. If something doesn’t work, she will let you know and she will make it funnier. She is really sweet and always open and people love her. She is an American institution. I will never forget working with Betty White,” he said. “Working with Vanessa Redgrave was phenomenal too and working with Rachel Griffiths has changed my life. Rachel is one of the most talented actresses that I have ever worked with in my life. She is an acting genius and an amazing person. She is very passionate and you need to work with her to actually see how amazing she really is.”
Regarding his plans for the future, Gilles stated that he is “starting to write more” and he is working on the producing aspect of the business.
In addition to his acting roles he underscored that the most important role for him is being a family man: a father to George and Julianna, as well as a husband to Carole, for the past fifteen years. “I cannot live without Carole in my life. I cannot breathe without her. It’s all about love. I am very happy,” he shared.
Gilles noted that he and his family enjoyed their recent vacation in Bora Bora. “It’s a place that we really enjoyed. It was our sanctuary. We loved the weather and most importantly, the people there. We were invited to go to the Pearl Beach Resort and it was amazing.”
Gilles revealed that his wife, Carole, and his children are all doing really well. “I think they are growing way too fast,” he said. “Having Georges and Julianna is the most beautiful thing that I ever had in my life. My family is amazing. Being a father is one of the easiest things for me since I really love to be involved and to have a good time.”
He also spoke highly of his mother, who is of Greek origin. “My mother is the reason why I am on this earth and I would do anything for her,” he said.
Gilles concluded by showcasing his appreciation for his dedicated fans. “It is because of the fans that I am here. I am very grateful to them. They are the reason I am who I am today. I owe them a massive percentage of who I am.”
According to Nick Katsoris, the president of the Hellenic Times Scholarship Fund (HTSF) and author of the “Loukoumi” children’s books series, he stated, “I met Gilles when we honored him at our 20th anniversary of the Hellenic Times Scholarship Fund GALA in 2011. Not only is Gilles a talented actor and performer, but he is a kind, compassionate and wonderful person who gets involved in so many philanthropic causes. He is a firm believer in giving back which is so admirable. I am grateful to Gilles for his support of my ‘Loukoumi’ children’s books and the work we do with the books for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.”
Katsoris continued, “Gilles participated in our ‘Loukoumi’s Celebrity Cookbook’ and is participating in the sequel, our ‘Holiday Recipe Cookbook’ due in 2014. He has been a champion in promoting the project and what we do for the children at St. Jude. He is also an amazing father I might add. I am honored to know him and his lovely wife Carole and I wish him much continued success in everything he does.”
