article imageVenezuela receives 50 million rolls of imported toilet paper

By Owen Weldon     May 17, 2013 in World
A toilet paper shortage has hit Venezuela, and the government is hoping it can wipe it out by importing 50 million rolls of it.
According to USA Today, the Associated Press visited one supermarket in the capital on Wednesday, and it was all out of toilet paper. Another supermarket just received a batch of it and when the word spread around, shoppers filled up.
According to The Atlantic, Alejandro Fleming, the Commerce Secretary, said that the toilet paper shortage was a result of excessive demand that was sparked off by a media campaign designed to disrupt the country.
According to Huffington Post, one customer said that she was looking for toilet paper for two weeks, and could not find any. Other Venezuelans took to social media to vent about the toilet paper shortage.
One Tweet, from opposition leader Henrique Capriles, said that the government even managed to stop toilet paper production.
