Huffman - A desperate Texas mom offered up her three-year-old son for adoption on the classifieds website Craigslist. The woman has apparently been suffering from depression and anxiety.
The Daily Dot and Houston-area ABC affiliate KTRK report that Stephanie Redus, 29, from Texas has been arrested for posting an advertisement on Craigslist to try to get her 3-year-old son adopted. The reports claim that Redus told police she'd been suffering from depression and anxiety before submitting the ad, however, couldn't take medication because she is pregnant.
Her May 1 post read:
"Hi, I'm trying to adopt out my three year old son. I'm not in a good place in my life and don't feel like I can care for him properly, but I don't know where to start. If you or know anyone who is interested in caring for him please let me know. I'm a single mom and can't do this. Thanks, Desperate."
Neighbors are said to claim that the three-year-old boy seemed happy and well cared-for. KTRK reports neighbor John Kirby as saying "You'd see him out here playing. The little boy he goes around riding a little electric police car he's got."
KTRK state that because the incident occurred in cyberspace, it is not clear to prosecutors what charge would be filed against Redus. At the moment it stands at "advertising for placement of a child" which is classified as a misdemeanor, however, "the charges could be upgraded."
