article image'Gran Turismo 6' officially announced at Silverstone Circuit

Sony and Polyphony Digital have offically announced that 'Gran Turismo 6' is in the works and is set to be released for the PlayStation 3 for the 2013 Holiday season.
The unveiling was made at the Silverstone Circuit during Gran Turismo's 15-year anniversary celebration. Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of the series, was present to make the announcement and to explain the goals of the development team.
According to a Sony press release; Gran Turismo 6 is being developed with a new engine that Polyphony Digital hopes will allow them the flexibility needed to expand the game with downloadable content.
At the celebration, Yamauchi stated: It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo. Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream.
The game is expected to feature 1,200 licensed cars and 71 track layouts with more to come in future DLC's. Among the new cars fetured will be the Tesla Motors Model S Signature Performance ’12, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 ’11, and the Ferrari Dino 246 GT ’71.
Among the new features expected will be a focus on community gaming by allowing players to form their own club and to organize their own online events. Sony is also hoping to make Gran Turismo 6 be multi device compatibility and have a shorter load time.
Gran Turismo is racing simulation video games developed by Polyphony Digital exclusively for the PlayStation system. Since its debut in 1997, the series has sold over 70 million units worldwide making it one of the best selling PlayStation games.
