Sydney - NSW Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Hospitality and Racing and Minister for the Arts, The Hon. George Souris launched the Sydney Film Festival at Customs House on 8 May at an event attended by those involved in the Australian film industry.
The 60th Sydney Film Festival will run from 5-16 June. It will feature 276 screenings of 190 films from 55 countries.
There will be 19 World Premieres at the Festival, including the two major Australian feature productions ‘Mystery Road’ and ‘Nerve’.

Closing Night includes the announcement of the Sydney Film Festival awards:
FIAPF-accredited SFF Official Competition
$60,000 (Australia’s highest film cash prize) will be awarded in recognition of ‘courageous, audacious and cutting-edge cinema’. Actor Hugo Weaving will be the Jury President.
Foxtel Australian Documentary Prize
$10,000 cash will be awarded for this prize sponsored by Foxtel, now in its fifth year.
There is also the Dendy Award for Australian Short Film and the Foxtel Movie Channels Audience Award.
