Veteran 'American Idol' judge Randy Jackson has decided to leave the Fox's singing talent show where he served as original judge for the last 12 years.
The 12th season of American Idol is set to broadcast its finale next week with face off between top contestants Kree Harrison and Candice Glover.
Aside from Jackson, the current season judges include Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban. There are reports swirling around that the entire judging panel will be replaced in the next season of the once popular singing talent show.
In his official statement, posted on Jackson said:
"Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season,"
"I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It's been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures," he added.
"Ratings for "Idol," once a TV juggernaut, have plummeted this year. The show has been the most popular entertainment program in prime time for nine years running, but it's likely "Idol" will lose that distinction this season. It's now regularly behind the NBC singing competition,The Voice" in the weekly ratings, writes
Jackson, together with Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul have been widely credited for the television success of "American Idol," making it the most popular talent show on television for many years since it debut in 2002.
