article imageVideo 'Fiends' takes you on a ride in an F-16 Fighting Falcon

By JohnThomas Didymus     May 9, 2013 in Technology
The video, a footage from the 36th Fighter Squadron Flying Fiends, gives the perspective of a fighter pilot flying the F-16 fighter, the "Fighting Falcon." It shows the jet flying, doing stunts, fueling up in the air and even dropping bombs.
The fighter jet is nicknamed the "Viper" by pilots because it resembles a cobra as it approaches someone standing at the end of a runway. According to F-16.net, the nickname "Viper" was popular among pilots at Hill AFB, the first F-16 base, before "Fighting Falcon" was selected as the official name of the plane.
The footage uploaded to YouTube last week by wattsissimo has received over 140,000 views. He advises viewers who may want to become fighter pilots: "It is a fun job, that’s for sure. The first step is become an officer. There are programs as an enlisted AF member, or if you already have a bachelor’s you can apply for OTS. After that, get a pilot slot, then work your butt off to get fighters. Last step, is mostly pure luck and good timing."
