The conviction of Melanie Smith was reported here
earlier this month. Today, she was given the mandatory life sentence with a tariff of thirty years. CCTV was release of Smith walking down the street shortly before she started the fire. Police also released photographs of the torched building - see below.
This was the second trial and fourth conviction in recent weeks for an arson attack that led to multiple deaths. Last month, Mick Philpott
and two co-conspirators were convicted of the manslaughter of six of Philpott's children in a fire that was started for reasons of revenge and greed. They did not intend to kill; it remains to be seen if Smith did; she torched the home of her victims over a triviality, one she will have the next thirty and more years to mull over.
