article imageOprah Winfrey: Trailer for Oprah's new film 'The Butler' released

By Marcus Hondro     May 8, 2013 in Entertainment
The trailer for 'The Butler' was released on Tuesday and it includes strong work from Oprah Winfrey. Her performance in the Lee Daniels directed film is the talk-show host superstars first major role in 15 years.
'The Butler' tells the story of Eugene Allen, referred to in the film as Cecil Gaines, and it spans a large piece of American history. Allen was the butler to 7 U.S. presidents, including Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter. Forest Whitaker plays the Allen/Gaines character and Winfrey is his wife.
Winfrey, 59, made an outstanding acting debut in 1985 in Steven Spielberg's 'The Color Purple.' She was nominated for a Best Actress in a Supporting Role Oscar, which she didn't win, and had a promising acting career seemingly stretched out before her. However, shortly after that she began her talk show and has only rarely appeared on screen since, her last major role in 1998's 'Beloved'.
In 'The Butler', Winfrey has a love scene with Terence Howard and she playfully told radio host Steve Harvey recently that the scene grew from a short one to something much longer thanks to Howard "misbehaving" throughout the filming of it.
'The Butler' is scheduled for release in October.
