Four UN peacekeepers were seized and detained by Syrian rebels near the the Israeli occupied Golan Heights. The peacekeepers were part of a UN force monitoring the ceasefire line between Israel and Syria.
Rebels belonging to the "Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade" claimed responsibility for taking the UN peacekeepers, claiming they were taken for their own protection as the area had heavy fighting.
The nationality of the 4 peacekeepers was that of the Philippines. The seizure of the UN peacekeepers is the second time that this happened at the hands of the Yarmouk Brigade.
In March of this year, over 20 peacekeepers were detained by the group, before being released.
