Erroneous news alerts about Angelina Jolie and Justin Bieber were recently Tweeted from E! Online's Twitter account, but E! says that hackers were responsible for the Tweets.
Not only was the Twitter account compromised, but so was its text messaging accounts, according to Philly.
A group did take responsibility for the hack, which occurred on Saturday. The group that took responsibility for it was the Syrian Electronic Army.
According to Washington Times, one of the Tweets that the group sent out said “Exclusive: Justin Bieber to E!online: I’m a gay." That Tweet was re-tweeted 1,200 times and favorite 351 times.
According to NY Daily, other Tweets said that Selena Gomez was supportive of Bieber coming out, and another Tweet said that actress Angelina Jolie said that Jordan was too blame for the atrocious conditions that Syrian refugees find themselves in.
E! Online eventually suspended their Twitter account, but only temporarily. When E! Online got their account back, it sent out a Tweet explaining that they were hacked and that they were sorry for any confusion that may have been caused by the fake news alerts.
